Elma, N.Y. (July 2, 2013) – Western New York Flash midfielder Carli Lloyd was voted the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 12 of the 2013 NWSL season.
Lloyd, 30, netted the second hat trick in the history of the NWSL as Western New York extended their unbeaten run to nine games with a 4-0 victory over the Washington Spirit on June 28.
Flash defender Alex Sahlen assisted on the Delran Township, N.J. native’s first goal in the 3rd minute before forward Abby Wambach set up goals by Lloyd in the 22nd and 56th minutes.
The U.S. international played all 90 minutes against the Spirit, had six shots (five on goal), committed three fouls and suffered two fouls.
Lloyd is the second Western New York player to be voted the NWSL Player of the Week after Wambach claimed the accolade for performances in Week 5 and Week 9.
