Excelsior Named Official Sports Medicine Provider

03/19/2015 12:46 PM -

The Western New York Flash is excited to announce Excelsior Orthopaedics as the Official Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Provider for both the club and Sahlen Sports Park.

“We’re really excited about this partnership through both the Western New York Flash and Sahlen Sports Park,” said Flash general manager and head coach Aaran Lines. “The care and attention that went into our talks before coming to our agreement made us very optimistic of this partnership. On both sides, this feels like a really good fit.”

Led by orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Lisa Daye, a group of physicians from Excelsior, including fellow surgeon Dr. Andrew Stoeckl and primary care sports medicine specialists, Dr. Jason Matuszak and Dr. Todd Lorenc, will serve as Team Doctors for the Flash, providing the players with all necessary medical care.

“We are very proud to be the new official sports medicine providers for the WNY Flash,” said Dr. Daye.  “It is a first-rate organization, which has enjoyed great success on the field.  The chance to work with women who are among the best soccer players in the world is very exciting for us.”

Excelsior’s Keith Feind, a Certified Athletic Trainer, will provide game day coverage for the team, which plays its home schedule at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.   Feind will be on site at all WNY Flash practices and games to ensure that every precaution has been taken to minimize the risk of injuries to the players, and to provide “first response” to any player who experiences an injury.

“We look forward to working together in a prosperous relationship,” Lines added. “The care that has been provided, and will continue to be provided, to our players will go along way into a successful and healthy season.”

Excelsior will also be developing educational programs at Sahlen Sports Park, the Official Training Center of the WNY Flash and WNY Flash Academy. These programs, for young athletes, parents and coaches, will focus on injury prevention, strength training and performance, concussion awareness and much more.

For Excelsior Orthopaedics, the WNY Flash becomes the second professional sports team for which it provides primary medical care.  The practice has been the Official Team Doctors for the International League baseball’s Buffalo Bisons, the AAA affiliate of MLB’s Toronto Blue Jays, since 1992.   Excelsior also provides athletic training services to 10 WNY high schools, including Amherst, Clarence, Starpoint, St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, Sweet Home, Williamsville East, Williamsville North, Williamsville South, West Seneca East and West Seneca West.

Excelsior’s role at Sahlen Sports Park in Elma also represents another step in Excelsior Orthopaedics continued expansion in the Southtowns.  The practice has maintained an office at 240 Red Tail Drive in Orchard Park since 2007, but has recently begun to expand the services available there.  In September, 2014, Dr. Kory B. Reed, an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of the hands and upper extremities, joined the Excelsior team in Orchard Park.  The addition of the West Seneca Central Schools to its roster of athletic training programs is Excelsior’s latest move in its Southtowns expansion.  And later this year, another surgeon, Dr. Matthew A. Mann, who specializes in total joint replacement and conditions of the lower extremities (foot and ankle) will also join the group, keeping office hours in Orchard Park.

“We are really looking forward to the WNY Flash’s 2015 season,” Dr. Daye said.  “We are committed to providing the players with superior orthopaedic and sports medicine care and helping them achieve their goal of winning an NWSL championship.”
