Flash Look for Second Win; Host Spirit Saturday

05/22/2015 5:20 PM -

The Western New York Flash will step into Sahlen’s Stadium for the third time this season when it hosts the Washington Spirit at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday night. The Flash (1-3-1, 4 points) will be looking to knock off the second-seeded Washington Spirit (3-2-1, 10 points), who sit just one point out of first place as of Friday afternoon.

Saturday’s match will be streamed live on YouTube and can be watched by clicking the link here.  Fans can also follow live play-by-play at the Flash's official Twitter page, @WNYFlash, and can join the conversation by using the hashtag #WNYFvWAS.

The Flash will be without both rostered goalkeepers on Saturday night. Sabrina D’Angelo, who has started all five of the Flash’s games thus far, is out 2-4 weeks with a Grade 1 right AC separation and Chantel Jones, who replaced D’Angelo after her injury, was suspended one game by the NWSL on Tuesday for unsporting conduct.

For those reasons, Western New York has called up amateur goalkeepers Robyn Horner and Megan Tock for Saturday’s game against the Washington Spirit.

Horner, 30, spent her collegiate career at Rutgers and spent two seasons in the W-League for the New Jersey Wildcats where she was named 2007’s Eastern Conference Goalkeeper of the Year. She has played professionally for the Charlotte Lady Eagles for the past two seasons and has served as Pfeiffer University’s assistant women’s soccer coach. In January, she was recently promoted to head coach. She has also served as Pfeiffer’s Assistant Athletic Director/Senior Woman’s Administrator.

Tock, 23, is a local product from Canisius College in Buffalo. A 2014 graduate, Tock started all but one game during her senior campaign and finished that year ranked ninth in the nation in total saves. Tock finished her career with 44 appearances (42 starts), six shutouts and a total of 264 saves.

In the Flash’s most recent game against Kansas City, the two teams totaled 21 fouls but neither could find the back of the net and each team came away with one point.

In Washington’s last match, a 1-0 win over Sky Blue FC, Francisca Ordega provided late game dramatics as she broke the deadlock in the 91+ minute to lift her team.
