Game 1: WNY Flash Open Against FC Kansas City

04/16/2016 8:28 AM -

The Western New York Flash open up the 2016 NWSL season on Saturday night against reigning NWSL Champion FC Kansas City at Children’s Mercy Park in a 8:30 p.m. ET matchup.

The match will be streamed live on YouTube. Fans can also follow the live play-by-play at the Flash’s official Twitter page, @WNYFlash and can join the conversation by using the hashtag #KCvWNY.

Both teams will open up their seasons on Saturday night.  The Flash had an eventful offseason with a lot of changes, including Paul Riley joining at the head coach position. The Flash also added 11 new players to its roster in the offseason, including ex-Chicago Red Stars and current New Zealand defender Abby Erceg, who now captains the team.

The Flash finished preseason with some convincing wins over West Virginia University and a 4-0 win over Vermont, and look to continue the momentum into the season.

FC Kansas City led last year’s series between the two clubs 2-0-1 and lead the all-time series 3-2-3. The last time the teams met, the Blues managed to put four in the back of the net against the Flash, including a goal by U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder Heather O’Reilly.

The WNY Flash will begin its home campaign on Friday, April 29 against the Washington Spirit at Sahlen’s Stadium.
