FLASH HOPE TO MAINTAIN STRONG FORM ON ROADTRIP
First Away Match for Flash Since May
Rochester, NY (July 15, 2016) - The Western New York Flash (8-4-0) are hoping to continue their winning ways away from home, when they travel to Seattle, Washington, to take on the Seattle Reign FC (4-4-4) on Saturday, July 23.
The Flash have won six of their last seven games and have set the table ablaze, moving all the way within two points of the first place Portland Thorns FC. In the seven home games, the side was able to score 22 goals.
In last week’s match, the Flash hosted Seattle and came away with a 3-2 win at Frontier Field. Captain Abby Erceg was crucial with two goals and an assist, while forward Lynn Williams scored the game-winning goal in the 83’. Williams currently leads the league with seven goals scored.
“Our offense causes problems for most teams,” Erceg said. “We have such a dangerous forward line that allows us to cause teams problems. We’re going to get our shots off, get corners and get good looks from set pieces.”
Saturday’s match in Seattle will be the Flash’s first match away from home since May 14, when the side fell to the hands of Orlando, 1-0. The Reign will almost surely be looking to avenge last week’s result, according to head coach Paul Riley.
“They’re not going to be happy about the loss last week, so they’re going to come with all guns blazing,” Riley explained. “You have to expect that they’re going to rebound and come out to play. “
After twelve matches, the Flash are in sole possession of second place in the NWSL table with 24 points, sitting just two points behind first-place Portland Thorns FC. Seattle fell to seventh place after last week’s loss.
The match is scheduled to kickoff at Memorial Stadium at 10:00 p.m. ET, with a live stream available at youtube.com/NWSL.
The Flash will return home to Rochester Rhinos Stadium on July 23rd when they host FC Kansas City at 7:00 P.M. Tickets for the match are available at wnyflash.com/tickets.
