Event to be held May 14th & 15th

BUFFALO, NY (January 29, 2017) --- The Western New York Flash Academy is excited to announce its first annual 24-Hour Soccerthon Event, to be held May 14th and 15th at Sahlen’s Sports Park. The initial Soccerthon will be taste of what will become a big annual fall season event for the Academy.

The WNY Flash 24-Hour Soccerthon will be the club’s annual fundraising event, with the WNY Flash players leading the way under the motto 'Kids helping Kids.'

Net proceeds will benefit three causes:

1) The WNY Flash Academy Financial Aid Program – The Financial Aid program is designed to help families with players who should be playing at the premier level, but due to demonstrated financial need find it difficult or impossible to participate.

2) A Partner Charity – A soon to be announced local child focused non profit organization - 15% of the total proceeds raised by the 24 Hour Soccerthon will be donated to our partner charity.

3) Every WNY Flash Academy Team – 10% of the proceeds raised by the players on their team will be donated back to the team fund to help cover annual team expenses.

"The fact that the money raised by an event like this goes directly to benefit kids, on numerous levels, is awesome,” WNY Flash Academy Director of Coaching Rob Ferguson explained. “Equally as important is the fact that we are actively involving our players in the process so that they can understand why they are driving fundraising and why they are participating in the event.”

The event will be organized and run by a combination of club staff and volunteers, being led by the volunteer WNY Flash Advisory Board who have been instrumental in determining the path for this spring 2017 event and in the bigger picture, planning for an annual fall season event.

"We are very excited for this first annual academy-wide fundraiser where our families, players and community are directly involved for a great cause," WNY Flash Advisory Board member Julie Michel said. "We wanted a fundraiser with ties to soccer, but where the kids perform a valuable service by not only raising money to benefit their teams, but by serving other kids that are less fortunate."

Be on the lookout for much more info on the WNY Flash Academy 24-Hour Soccerthon event in the coming weeks, including the official announcement of our partner charity!
