WESTERN NEW YORK FLASH CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM TO BE HONORED DURING RING CEREMONY
Ceremony Will Take Place Prior to NC Courage Game on April 29
Cary, NC (April 26, 2017) --- A ring ceremony recognizing the players and coaching staff of the 2016 Western New York Flash team who won last year’s NWSL Championship will take place before Saturday’s match between the North Carolina Courage and the Orlando Pride, which is set to kick off at 4 pm on April 29.
The Sahlen family will be in attendance as the 2016 Championship rings are distributed to the players and coaching staff.
“We are incredibly excited about being in North Carolina this weekend to honor the players and coaching staff for the excellent job that they did for our organization this past season,” Vice President Aaran Lines explained. “We are pleased that we are able to continue our support of professional women’s soccer and the North Carolina Courage in the coming years while continuing to raise the level of soccer in western New York through our Academy and amateur team.”
North Carolina Football Club announced on January 9 that it had acquired the rights to the National Women’s Soccer League 2016 Championship team, the Western New York Flash, for the 2017 NWSL season.
In the Flash’s Championship winning match against the Washington Spirit in October, the Flash came back from a deficit, as Williams tied the game in the 124th minute, seconds before the whistle, to send the match to penalty kicks. Goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo made three saves to secure the Championship for the Flash. The Flash was the first team in NWSL history to win the Championship as a No. 4 seed.
The current NC Courage roster consists of 15 players and two coaches who were a part of the 2016 NWSL Championship team. Alanna Kennedy, now of the Orlando Pride, will also receive her ring. Additionally, Lynn Williams will be receiving her 2016 NWSL MVP and Golden Boot awards.
Fans can purchase their tickets to the match at NCFCTix.com or by calling the box office at 919-459-8144.
