FLASH HOST SURF IN HOME OPENER ON SATURDAY
Match Will Be Part of Doubleheader with FC Buffalo
BUFFALO, NY (May 19, 2017) --- The Western New York Flash (0-1-1) will be taking on the New York Surf (1-0-0) for the second time in a week as soccer returns to the Buffalo area this weekend. The United Women’s Soccer tilt is part of a doubleheader with the Flash playing at 4:00 PM, followed by FC Buffalo’s contest with the Dayton Dynamo at 7:00 PM.
The Flash were on the road to open their 2017 season, facing the Long Island Rough Riders in a 1-1 draw on Saturday, followed by a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Surf. Kaelyn Gamel scored the lone goal of the weekend for the Flash on a one-timer off of a layoff pass from Brittany Heist.
There will be some turnover on the roster heading into this weekend, as Carissima Cutrona, Greta Dry, Shannon Carr and Paige Buscaglia will all dress for the Flash.
“It’s a quick turnaround facing a team that we just played,” Head Coach Gary Bruce explained. “The stats were certainly in our favor last weekend, but we couldn’t finish when it mattered. After another week of training and the additions of some more players, I think that we’re in a place where we can improve upon our performance.”
Four former Western New York Flash Academy players – Shannon Carr, Sydney Cerza, Maddie Pezzino and Alanna Rossi – will also be suiting up for the Flash, in addition to some players from the Academy’s ECNL player to round out the roster.
Flash Academy players will get free entry to all Flash games by wearing this jersey. In addition, players attending the Flash game Saturday can pick up their FC Buffalo Season Ticket at the front gate as part of the new agreement with the NPSL side.
Tickets for the Flash game can be purchased here.
Tickets for both games of the doubleheader can be purchased here.
