Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts
Buffalo Youth Soccer Community:
The WNY Flash Academy and The West Seneca Soccer Club wanted to find a way to help support families affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, many who have lost everything.
The impact has been devastating and it will continue to get worse before it gets better. As the waters recede, the extent of the loss and tragedy is only expected to increase. The incredible display of positivity and humanism has been inspiring, so we wanted to do our part to help.
Please join us in a “Pick-Up Soccer Fundraiser” to support those in Texas affected by the Hurricane. This means just coming out to play pick-up soccer with other members of the Buffalo Youth Soccer Community. It is for a good cause, and transcends teams, programs, clubs and competitors. Let's step up together to help. Several youth soccer clubs, premier and town, including West Seneca, Kenmore, GPS, Orchard Park, Grand Island Soccer Club and Empire Buffalo have all confirmed their support for this event and cause. We will gladly set up a field for adults to play pick-up as well, if the interest and donations are there!
Sahlen's Packing Company has also generously offered to support this cause by supplying and grilling hotdogs during the event, and all proceeds will go towards the fundraising total.
When - Wednesday, September 6th, 5.30pm to 7.30pm
Where - West Seneca Soccer Complex
Format - This is a simple pick-up soccer event: just come and play. Join in a game, any game. The WNY Flash Academy staff will help to coordinate by trying to ensure kids of all ages have pick-up games they can play in and numbers are fun on all fields.
Who - This is open to every youth soccer player, or any kid for that matter, who wants to play for the cause. We have some of the top local college programs supporting the cause and expect to have players out there (not playing, they are in season!) from Canisius College’s Men’s and Women’s teams, UB Women’s Soccer, Buffalo State Men’s and Women’s Soccer.
Donate - All proceeds raised will be donated directly to the All Hands Volunteers Hurricane Harvey Fund. We have selected this organization for a number of reasons:
(1) They score very highly with the Charity Navigator, an organization who ranks and scores charities in key areas, including accountability and transparency, and (2) They are focused on multiple regions along the gulf coast, from Rockport (where the Hurricane made landfall) to Houston and affected regions near Louisiana. Please see this link for more information: https://give.hands.org/team/132707
There will be a tent where people can check-in and make donations. We are recommending a $5 donation to play, but you can donate however little or however much you would like. Please come to the tent on arrival, donate and we will direct you to a field to play.
Come on out... donate, play soccer and support those affected by Hurricane Harvey on Texas!
