WNY Flash Announces UWS Open Training Session

Elma, New York (December 26th, 2017) -- The WNY Flash officially kicks off the 2018 season with open training session.

The Western New York Flash would like to announce that we will be hosting an open training session on Friday, December 29th from 3:00PM to 5:00PM at Sahlen Sports Park in Elma, New York for all prospective players interested in competing for the club. These training sessions will help to identify UWS players for the upcoming 2018 season. All players MUST be registered online in order to attend the open training session.

The Western New York Flash is no stranger to high level soccer. The Flash was founded back in 2008, at the time called The Buffalo Flash, and played in the USL (United Soccer League) W-League from 2008 to 2010. In 2011, The Western New York Flash joined the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS). Then in 2012, the team became a member of Women’s Premier Soccer League Elite (WPSL-E). From 2010 to 2012, The Flash won three consecutive league championships under head coach Aaran Lines. The Flash won the Regular Season championship in 2013, and reached the inaugural NWSL Championship Game in 2013, but fell to the Portland Thorns FC in search of their fourth-straight title. Finally in 2016, the team won the NWSL Championship for the first and only time. The team was later moved to Cary, North Carolina and were rebranded as the North Carolina Courage.

This past season the club continued to serve the WNY community with soccer, fielding an amateur side which played in the UWS. The squad was coached by, WNY Flash Junior Academy Director of Coaching, Gary Bruce and had a record of 4-4-2 in their first season. The squad featured WNY Flash Academy alum and Florida State player Madisyn Pezzino, as well as local collegiate University of Buffalo standout Carissima Cutrona.

Director of Soccer Operations, Aaran Lines, states “We are excited to build off of our inaugural season this past year and get the ball rolling Friday. It will be great to look at some familiar faces who have contributed to the clubs success, but also some new potential players for the upcoming season as we look to improve upon our 2017 seasons and qualify for the playoffs.”
