WNY FLASH ACADEMY PLAYERS COMMITTING TO COLLEGE SOCCER ROSTERS AT UNPRECEDENTED LEVELS
MORE THAN 75 PLAYERS HAVE COMMITTED TO COLLEGES OVER THE LAST THREE SEASONS
BUFFALO, NY (September 13, 2018) --- July and August may have been quite times at the WNY Flash Academy, after all it is the one time of the year the players take a short break from training and competing. However, many Flash players continued to navigate the college pathway and one player was invited in to the USYNT Training Camp in California.
One college commitment was a little different, as Maddie Keister became the first player in the 2021 class to commit, agreeing to join the University of Pittsburgh and play for Head Coach Randy Waldrum. The classes of 2021, 2022, 2023 and beyond are expected to see a significant increase in the number of players advancing on to college rosters. Director of Coaching, Rob Ferguson, puts this down to two things, "The depth and quality in our younger age groups is phenomenal, and the rise of our boys side." Ferguson adds, "With more and more of the areas top players looking to join the Flash Academy, not only on the girls side but also now with the boys as we enter our first year in the Boys ECNL, we have seen a huge uptick in players wanting to be a part of the Flash Academy and the ECNL, a league platform where the core philosophy is built around developing players to advance and succeed at the college level and beyond."
These are certainly exciting times, with more than 75 players committing to colleges in the last three seasons, despite not yet graduating a full year of Academy players on the boys side which only expanded to include U13-18 for the 2017/18 season. The list of colleges is impressive, with the majority playing DI, including: Syracuse, UB, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Marist, West Virginia, Pitt, Canisius, New Hampshire, Niagara, Duquesne, Virginia Tech, Austin Peay, Bucknell, Harvard... the list goes on!
