Mike Skelton joined the WNY Flash Academy in the summer of 2019. Skelton serves as the head coach of the academy’s 06G Red and 09G Red teams.
A native of Conway, N.H., in addition to his duties with the WNY Flash Academy, Skelton serves as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Niagara University.
Skelton joined Niagara after two seasons as an assistant coach for the Colby College (Maine) women’s soccer team. Prior to Colby, Skelton was an assistant coach for the UNC Ashville women’s soccer program for one season, where he aided in the development of three Big South All-Conference selections.
His first stop as a head coach was at Kennett High School in North Conway, N.H., where he served as the varsity girls coach for two seasons. Skelton then transitioned into a coaching role with the Carolina Mountain Soccer Club in Waynesville, N.C.
As a player at Lasell College, a NCAA Division III program in Newton, Mass., Skelton flourished, totaling 55 goals, 16 assists, and 126 points during his career. A three-year captain, Skelton earned GNAC All-Conference honors four times, GNAC Conference Player of the Year honors twice, and an All-American selection. He currently holds six program records: goals in a season, points in a season, game-winning goals in a season, career goals, career points, and career game winning goals. Skelton is also a member of Lasell College’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
In addition to holding a USSF National “E” License, a United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma, and a United Soccer Coaches Level 1 Goalkeeping Diploma, Skelton has a bachelor’s degree in Sports Communications and Multimedia & Web Design from Lasell College. He is currently pursuing his USSF National “D” License.
