The Western New York Flash proudly present Flash Flag Football.
Flash Flag will be home to the premier travel flag football program in both the Buffalo area, and starting in 2026 - the Rochester area. Flag football is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Men's and women's flag football will now be a part of the 2028 Olympic Games and there are now more than 50 girls collegiate programs nationwide. Many colleges are offering scholarships for athletes to play flag football at the next level.

Player Development
Our focus is on maximizing athletes' potential through competition, skills training, and high-quality instruction and coaching.
Facilities
We provide world-class indoor and outdoor facilities. Our winter training sessions primarily use Sahlen's Sports Park in Elma, NY. We will also use the two full-sized outdoor turf fields just down the street at Flash Fields. Facility information for Rochester Flag Football is coming soon.

Good! We encourage multi-sport athletes playing Flash Flag! We hope the relatively light commitment in comparison with most other travel sports will allow our flag football players to also be as involved in other sports as well.
Level of Commitment
Practices will take place one day per week from January through April (indoors on Thursdays while space is available). Teams will continue with a practice schedule of approximately one day per week from May through July. Teams will typically participate in 4-5 tournaments (March-July) annually. Tournaments typically take place on Saturdays or Sundays and teams are encouraged to participate in relatively local tournaments (Buffalo, Rochester, Southern Ontario, etc.).

MEET OUR DIRECTORS
In his previous three seasons at Villa Maria College, Coach Wing has compiled a record of 40-23 that saw the program’s winning percentage grow from .100 in its inaugural season to .840 in 2025.
In the team’s inaugural season in 2023-2024, Coach Wing led the first Women's Collegiate Flag Football (WCFF) team in New York State. This historic initiative comprised a short ten-game season with the Vikings earning their first collegiate win in a 1-9 season,
During the 2025 campaign, Villa Maria saw dramatic improvements and finished with a .643 winning percentage with an 18-10 overall record. The Vikings were the No. 1 seed with a 6-0 league record heading into the National Collegiate Flag Football League (NCFFL) playoffs with a Final Four appearance.
The 2025 team finished nationally-ranked No. 25 by WCFFB, who ranks teams that compete at levels of the NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA and USCAA. In addition, Coach Wing was recognized for his team’s accomplishments as NCFFL Coach of the Year in 2025. During the 2025 season, Coach-of-the-Year Wing mentored four NCFFL All-Stars.
The 2026 season showed continued growth and improvement for the program as the Vikings finished with a 21-4 overall record and .840 winning percentage. Again, the Vikings posted an undefeated NCFFL regular season prior to the postseason at 12-0 and repeated as a Final Four NCFFL national contender.
Villa Maria was one of just six teams in the nation to post a 20-plus win season. Villa Maria finished the regular season with a national ranking of No.12 by WCFFB, while producing four NCFFL All-Stars.
Coach Wing’s other experiences in flag football include Director of Flag Football for the Western New York Flash and color analyst for Buffalo-Toronto Public Media, with the latter role specializing in Section VI High School flag football.
Coach Wing’s experience coaching flag football began at the high-school level with a three-year stint at Williamsville South High School as Head Coach from 2023 through 2025, where he led the team to a 30-16-2 record. Highlights from Coach Wing’s time at Williamsville South included:
- Section VI Class B Finalist 2025
- League Sportsmanship Award Recipient 2024 and 2025
- Buffalo Bills Section VI Coach of the Week in April 2025
- League Coach of the Year 2024
Coach Wing has coached a variety of athletic teams at the high-school level in addition to flag football that include wrestling, girls basketball, baseball, football, and softball. At the collegiate level, Coach Wing was an Assistant Coach for the Rochester Institute of Technology Softball team for two seasons in 2008 and 2009.
Coach Wing has a strong background in coaching, teaching, and educational leadership. He currently serves as a school administrator in the Williamsville Central School District, where he has worked since 2012. Prior to that, he was an Athletic Director and School Principal in the Byron-Bergen Central School District and an Educator/Teacher in the Livonia and Wheatland-Chili school districts.
During his collegiate athletic playing career, Wing was a baseball utility infielder for Division III SUNY Oswego during the 1997 and1998 seasons, and finished with a career batting average above .300.
Coach Wing holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education (SUNY Oswego '99) and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (SUNY Brockport ‘01).
Originally from Livonia, NY, Coach Wing currently resides in Williamsville, NY with his wife, Christine, and children, Ethan, Jillian, and Andrew.
Meet Rob Currin, Director of Flash Flag Football in Rochester, NY; an experienced coach and program builder committed to developing confident athletes and building a positive football culture at every age.
Rob currently serves as the Head Women’s Flag Football Coach at SUNY Geneseo, where he led the Knights to a 12–5 record in their inaugural season. Under his direction, Geneseo captured the Empire 8 regular-season championship, and Rob earned Empire 8 Coach of the Year recognition.
Before his work at Geneseo, Rob coached Varsity Flag Football and Varsity Girls Basketball at Le Roy Jr./Sr. High School. He also served as Head Coach of the Alden High School varsity football team from 2013–2019, after spending the 2006–2012 seasons as an assistant on that staff.
Rob’s football background also includes collegiate and professional development. He was on staff at Buffalo State College in 2005, where he played from 2000–2003. In addition to his coaching roles, Rob is a Sport Development Professional for USA Football, traveling across the country to train coaches and players often in coordination with NFL clubs.
From 2016–2018, Rob coached the Buffalo Bills 14U flag football team at NFL Flag Nationals in Orlando, Florida. He also serves as a tackle consultant coach at Saint Lawrence University, helping coaches and athletes improve technique, preparation, and player safety. In addition, Rob works as a Talent ID Field Core Lead Coach for the U.S. National Team.
